French-door fridges combine design and function. They have stylish double doors that reveal the large fridge on top and a freezer drawer beneath. Special features like door-to-door dispensers, ice machines with higher-end features and adjustable flex drawers make them stand out from the crowd.
We contacted Ladina Schopf - an interior designer, architect and the founder of LS Projects - for her advice on how to choose the right one. They considered the capacity of storage and layout and energy efficiency as well as other features.
GE Profile Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator
As the name suggests, GE's Profile series targets those who want to incorporate cutting-edge technology in their kitchen. This fridge is loaded with them, from an in-the-door Keurig K-cup coffee maker to a sophisticated water dispenser. But these flourishes don't mask mediocre performance, especially in the refrigerator's freezer and an ineffective temperature-controlled drawer. This refrigerator is costly, so I expected better.
This refrigerator is a good choice, despite the blip. It boasts a spacious freezer compartment, which is uncommon in counter-depth French door fridges, and it holds a fair amount of frozen foods compared to similar models.
Inside the fridge, you'll find 17 shelves and compartments. The fridge compartment offers 18.5 cubic feet of space, which is roughly on par for the size of a French door fridge costing this much. It has a decent sized freezer in the left side. However, it's not the largest one I've seen.
You can adjust the shelves in both compartments to create a the perfect storage solution. The interior design of the GE PYE22PYNFS is attractive. The LED lighting is an attractive feature. The in-door storage bins have a third shelf which can be folded down to store tall objects. The drawers include temperature controls that let you set them to Meat, Beverage, or Deli settings. The drawers are simple to open and shut however I found the plastic's textured coatings to be a bit rough on my fingers.
The GE PGE29BYTFS Smart Refrigerator comes with all the features you would expect from a refrigerator within this price range. This includes Wi-Fi, app support and GE's SmartHQ Software. The app, available for iOS and Android devices allows you to control your fridge from anywhere in world, and has many options for customizing. It also sends you notifications when the door is unlocked as well as when the fridge or freezer requires defrosting, and when the filter has to be changed.
It would be nice if the GE PYE22PYNFS came with Precise Fill it's an option in other GE fridges that allow you to choose how many cups of water you'd like to dispense simultaneously. It does offer an indicator on the fridge's display to display how much water you have left, but it's not as effective as Precise Fill.
Bosch Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator
The Bosch French-door Refrigerator is an impressive product. It's designed to look like it's a seamless component in your kitchen. The fridge uses fingerprint-resistant stainless steel, which is a great feature for busy households. It also has a veggie compartment which keeps vegetables and fruits fresher for longer, and two compressors for preserving food items. The Ice maker we tested is one of the most efficient and produces an ice pyramid with only a little water. This refrigerator is ideal for a small household or kitchenette that needs a built-in appearance and top-of-the line food preservation.
This refrigerator was rated as the best in our Refrigerators Test for several reasons. The freezer temperature remained steady at just above 0°F and never changed by more than a fraction, this is crucial to avoid freezer burn. The fridge's fridge section also performed well, reaching the desired temperature for initial set within a matter of hours and keeping that temperature steady over the course of our tests.
Bosch is a household name for its high-end appliances. Therefore, it's no surprise that Bosch's counter depth fridge Bosch counter depth refrigerator can be connected to your home Wi Fi and Bosch's Home Connect. This app allows you to monitor and control your refrigerator remotely on your smartphone or tablet. The fridge is a bit expensive, but it comes with excellent features and functionality for the price.
It's important to understand the limitations of your fridge. You might need to be creative with tall items because the fridge is limited in shelf space. Additionally, the shelves are not completely sprillproof, and can easily be stained or damaged by sharp objects. It's simple to remove the trays in the fridge, but be sure to clean them frequently to prevent the growth of mold.

LG Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator
The LG LRFLC2706S counter-depth refrigerator is a great choice for those who require lots of space within an extremely compact frame. Inside, the refrigerator has the standard French-door layout, with gallon-sized bins for the doors on each door, two rows of shelves for spill-capture and a set of more spacious drawers. The top shelf on the right can be folded in order to create more space for taller items. There's also a full-width drawer to store food items and an internal water dispenser.
The refrigerator comes with an ice maker, making it simple to transfer frozen ice whenever you need it. The freezer has thoughtful design elements, for instance, sliding drawers that can help you better organize the placement of your items. It comes with a large bin for storing frozen food, and a separate bin for ice.
Smart InstaView panel is another awesome feature of the refrigerator. You can control the temperature, lighting and other aspects of your refrigerator from your smartphone. It's a nice way to monitor and manage your refrigerator, especially if you're away from home.
Although the Smart InstaView is a neat feature, it doesn't enhance the overall performance of the refrigerator. In fact, it took longer to defrost and chill foods in this fridge than some of the others we tried. This is likely due to the greater capacity.
The doors pose a problem with this fridge. The sunken handles let shorter people open them from the bottom. However, taller people still have a hard time closing them without slamming them. It would have been much better if they had handles mounted on the front.
The LG Counter-Depth MAX fridge is a great choice for those who want to combine the aesthetics of a French-door refrigerator with a more efficient design. Its capacity is superior to counter-depth models and is able to cool evenly. french style fridge freezer 's also a bit less than the best counter-depth refrigerators that have an ice maker, which helps make it a desirable choice.
Frigidaire Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator
This Frigidaire French door refrigerator is a good option for those looking for a French-door refrigerator that doesn't cost a lot of budget. It's a basic fridge which may not be as attractive as some of its competitors, but it still has enough features to make it a suitable choice. Its most significant feature, the temperature adjustable drawer, helps to keep food like vegetables and meat fresher for longer. It also comes with a huge water dispenser, as well as an excellent ice machine that works fast.
The "Chill Drawer", which is located over the two crisper bins, is another excellent feature. This drawer allows you to direct the majority of your fridge's cooling power to this area, so it can be used to store food items that require extra attention. You can adjust this feature using a slider that's located right in the middle of the drawer. You can also alter the general cooling settings for the entire fridge. I have found that the general settings work better than the specific ones.
During my tests, I found that the temperatures in the refrigerator were fairly consistent in various parts of the fridge. The temperatures in the middle, top and bottom of the fridge didn't differ significantly from 38 degrees. This is a pretty good performance however it doesn't rank among the best in our rankings.
This fridge has a few other neat features, including a temperature-monitoring display that alerts you to fluctuations and provides a forecast for the day ahead. This fridge can be connected with a smart thermostat in order to obtain more precise readings of the internal temperature of your fridge.
The Frigidaire FGHB2866PF's exterior is constructed of stainless steel with a grey-bodied body with a "smudge-proof" finish. It wards off streaks and fingerprints better than other stainless steel finishes I've tried.
